Kim Kardashian’s Cheat Meal Strategy Is Inspiring But Blummin' Depressing

Having just chomped down a packet of Walkers ‘Ready Salted’ crisps, a questionably stale chocolate brownie, and a bowl Wheatabixs before 10am this morning, it’s welcome news to hear Kim Kardashian open up about the importance of having cheat meals while maintaining a healthy diet.
In a post published on her website and app yesterday, the 37-year-old explained what reallygoes into her healthy eating regime.
‘I’ve been really strict with my diet, recently,’ she wrote. ‘When I grocery shop, I buy lean protein, carbs, fruits and veggies, but every once in a while, I like to treat myself and have a cheat meal. It can be so hard (and boring) to eat really clean all of the time.

‘A cheat meal allows me to enjoy food without feeling like I'm overindulging. My trainer, Mel [Alcantara], instructs that you should schedule a cheat meal about once every 10 days. This way you won't lose any of the progress you've made at the gym.’
I mean, we can barely hold out 10 hours before hallucinating about cheesy fries so we can only imagine restraining ourselves for 10 days.
Earlier this year, Kim revealed she’d toned down her waist to 24 inches and planned to start a diet and fitness plan curated by Alcantara, to whom she’s now a devout client.
‘When you do them too often, your body's hormones are thrown off,’ she added. ‘Your testosterone, which is a muscle-making and fat-loss hormone, can change if you're eating too many calories, which can make you gain weight. You can still enjoy your favourite food, as long as you get back on track the next day.
‘Cheat meals work best when you avoid alcohol, since they're empty calories filled with sugar. This part is easy for me since I don't really drink—which means I can just have an extra doughnut or two. Kidding! I do have a sweet tooth, though, so normally my cheat meals are desserts or other sweets.’
Last month, the mother-of-three revealed she’d lost a staggering seven pounds - half a stone - in two weeks to fit into her gold Versace dress for the 2018 Met Gala.

Shortly before the event, the mother-of-three told Vanity Fair that this year’s Met Gala dress was ‘one of [her] favourites’, noting that she didn’t actually have the fitting for it ‘until the night before’.
She explained: ‘We had gone through sketch after sketch, perfecting it. They took my measurements, but inside I was freaking out a little bit. Was it going to fit?
‘I had lost six or seven pounds in the last two weeks, doing a cleanse, and so I really wanted to make sure that it fit me . . . So I was freaking out a little bit, and then it just fit me like a glove—like, it was perfection. It was so good.’
Kim's choice to go on a drastic weight-loss cleanse was somewhat disappointing given the fact she's been championing eating well and working out with certified trainer over the last few months. Besides, any weight lost on cleanses more often than not tends to be water weight from your muscles, not fat, and does more harm than good.
However, we're glad to see she's now recognising the importance of enjoying life, letting yourself indulge in sweet treats once in a while and prioritising a healthy, well-rounded and expertly-tailored fitness regime.
Kim's trainer Melissa Alcantara recently explained to Womens Health how much cardio she does with the beauty influencer and it’s not as much as we originally thought.
'We don’t go crazy on the cardio,' Alcantara explained. '85 percent of our training is weight training, and the other 15 is made up of cardio.'
'Two days out of the week we’ll do steady-state cardio,' said Alcantara, 'so just walking at a steady pace on the treadmill for usually around 20 minutes. Nothing getting the heart rate too high.'
Slow and steady wins the race, right? Sounds like a plan to us.
