Everything John Cena and Nikki Bella Have Said About Their Broken Engagement
John Cena and Nikki Bella crushed the hearts of fans everywhere on April 15 when the pair told Us Weekly exclusively that they were ending their engagement after six years of dating.
“While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another,” the former flames, who got engaged during Wrestlemania 33 in April 2017, announced in a statement. “We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives.”
Following the news, Cena — who once admitted he and his fianceé would go months without seeing each other — took to social media several times to express himself after the breakup. A day after announcing their split, the WWEstar tweeted, “Hardship, loss, and humility are extremely difficult waters to navigate, but perseverance thru them builds a strength to withstand anything life throws your way.”
All hope is not lost, however. One month after calling off their wedding, Cena and Bella were spotted taking a stroll together in San Diego on Saturday, May 19. A source also told Us in April that “they could get back together in a year.”
While time will tell, Cena and Bella have been open and honest about their feelings amid ending their engagement. Scroll through to see what they’ve said!
Speaking Her Truth
Bella, 34, revealed she was staying at the home of her sister, Brie Bella, for the time being while vlogging in a YouTube video, posted on May 8: “I know you all know why. I’ve kinda been MIA. I’ve kinda been hiding out. I wanted to reach out to you all and thank you all for your love and support, I can’t tell you how much it’s meant to me, especially through a difficult time.”

Plot Twist
In a shocking turn of events, Cena told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotbduring an interview on Today that he still loved the professional wrestler, even admitting he “would love to marry Nicole” and “would love to have a family with Nicole.”
“I’ve always been honest with you guys, I also don’t want to ruin viewers’ mornings by giving them a bowl of sadness soup … It’s been incredibly reflective, which is amazing, but it is very difficult,” the Blockers star said during the daytime show on Monday, May 14. “I had my heart broken out of nowhere, or for me it was out of nowhere. And anyone who has experienced that knows that it comes with a series of bad feelings.”

Loss for Words
After the interviewer read an excerpt from her ex’s appearance, Bella struggled to find the right words. “Wow, well, I’m speechless. Um, yeah, that’s crazy,” she answered during the May 14 interview. “Yeah.”
“I didn’t think cold feet and all of that type of stuff existed, but it exists. I have hope and I’m just at a point in my life where I feel like I kind’ve lost me, and I want to find me and work on me,” she continued, before adding that she just wants “John and I both to live happily ever after, whether it’s together or separate.”

Picking Up the Pieces
The businesswoman called her ex, whom she referred to as "an amazing man" and "the love of my life" during a May 14 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I truly hope one day that we can work it out and get back together. I think there is hope. I just want us both to live the rest of our lives happy. Hopefully that’s together, maybe it’s not," Bella said during the interview. "Right now, I’m just focusing on me."

Sisterly Support System
Bella spoke exclusively with Us Weekly on Thursday, May 16, when she praised her sister for keeping her “strong” amid the heartbreaking ordeal. She also told Us that planning for the couple’s canceled May 5 nuptials during filming her E! series was more significant than she had originally anticipated.
“I didn’t realize that wedding planning was going to be the best form of therapy out there, that it was just going to make these feelings that I’ve stored away for the past six years come to life,” she explained. “So I just had to hit them head on."
She also admitted that if she ends up watching the episodes from the upcoming third season of her reality series, she’ll have to have “a few glasses of wine” and a “box of tissues.”
